pentagon city mall, there arrested in broad daylight. kendis gibson joins us now with the damage left behind. >> these the business of a targeted this jewelry store here at pentagon city mall. look at the surveillance video. you can tell the new when they were doing. it was brazen and calculated. surveillance cameras catching the four men casually walking into the zles jewelry store armed in hoodies with hammers. >> somebody just ran up in zles and stole. >> the use the hammers to smash into the jewelry cases and quickly snatched dozens of rings. >> you've got to be brave. >> police officers arrived minutes after, but by then there were long gone. >> they chose that location because of the easy access to the exterior of the building where a car was waiting. >> they made off with nearly $130,000 worth of jewelry and the store remained closed for the rest of the day as they looked for clues. >> i was wondering what happened. i did not know if it was anything big. that's scary. >> for many it was scary and reason. not only was it during the daylight but with plenty of security cameras to

in alabama where a kidnapped 5-year-old boy was held for nearly a week. plus the changes the pentagon could soon be making to its benefits policy for same-sex couples an earthquake in the south pacific triggered a tsunami that killed five people today. the eight -point -0 magnitude quake struck off the solomon islands. four elderly people and one child died when strong waves triggered by the quake hit an eastern region known as the santa cruz islands. damage is still being assessed but the tsunami appears to have caused some damage and disruption at the local airport and nearby villages. a tsunami warning issued for several other countries was later canceled. the f-b-i has released new photos of the bunker where a five-year-old boy from alabama was held hostage for six days. authorities found two homemade bombs yesterday in the bunker where jimmy lee dykes was keeping the boy hostage and continue to search for more today. one was in the underground bunker, the other was in a p-v- c pipe that the hostage taker used to communicate with police. dykes was killed in a raid on the bunker monday.

marco joins us with the details. >> it happened at the fashion mall in pentagon city earlier today. you can clearly see four men wearing hoods walk into zales jewelry store. at least one suspect is armed with a hammer and begins smashing away at the glass. the others help peel it back and all four grab what they can. they made off with 27 diamond rings, estimated value $128,000. after grabbing the rings the suspects took off running for the nearest exit. it led to the top level of the parking garage where there was a get-away driver in a red sedan. they drove through a closed gate exiting onto 15th street. investigators are checking security cameras in the garage to see if they can get a better description on the car or tag numbers. >> it's pretty scary because you come to the city thinking there's security and there's security all over the mall. so that is pretty gutsy on their behalf. >> they did conceal their identities by wearing hoods and i don't know if it's masks, but they did conceal their faces. so maybe through clothes the public will be able to help us locating these individuals.

at zales in pentagon city yesterday. >> but tonight we have brand- new video of a robbery this afternoon at a jewelry store in frederick. our ken molestina is there and the video is just amazing. you really feel for the woman inside at the time. >> reporter: absolutely, leslie. the images you're about to see tell it all. this was absolutely bold. it was daring. these women who were inside at least some of them, police say were hit with pepper spray. folks, once again it was all caught on the crook cam. let's show you what we're talking about. take a look here. you can see three men enter the colonial jewelry store on south market street after 1:00 today. one of the men appears to have a gun and he orders the women inside on to the floor. a second man then with the pepper spray can is seen firing off some of the chemical. the thieves break the glass cases and make off with handfuls of jewelry. the whole thing was over in minutes. thankfully no one was seriously hurt here. let's go on to yesterday. a similar scene at the zales jewelry store inside pentagon's mall. police say they made off

. yorktown, appomattox, the pentagon where 9/11 occurred -- there is a ceremony tonight i will be commissioned in -- there is a commission in april. we care very deeply about these events. one in nine virginians birth to death is a veteran. when you add in the guard and reserve and contractors, now you are probably talking about one in three of us. we care very deeply about all that is within dod. let me be plain, the threat that virginians and others are talking about now more than ever is the inability of congress to find a way forward on a reasonable budget compromise. that is what is in the newspapers and the headlines. at the direction of the deputy director, dod is planning for future cuts. i am very worried at the macro level about dod's ability to pursue and execute appropriate national security objectives in this time of congressional inability to find a budget compromise. the current cr limits flexibility, for example, of the military to appropriately taylor resources, we have no flexibility to deal with a shortfall. and to me, it seems like funding the military

smart spending reforms to the pentagon, which we all know is the largest federal agency and loses billions of dollars every year through waste, fraud and abuse. many of my colleagues recognize that no serious plan to address the deficit can go forward without significant pentagon cuts on the table. it targets $278 billion in wasteful pentagon spending and re-invests those dollars in our teachers, our rhodes and our future. -- roads and our future. these cuts will undermine our national security. only the wasteful, excessive and bloated spending is targeted. i'm especially pleased to see that this bill includes enforcement language that will audit the pentagon. these measures would increase transparency and accountability with the pentagon budget and get us on a fair and balanced road to fiscal sustainability. oftentimes, my colleagues don't really realize that the pentagon has not been audited and cannot be audited and we need an audit and we are calling for an audit of the pentagon. i'm going to re-introduce my bipartisan bill as a separate stand-alone effort to keep wasteful spe

of the events of the events in benghazi. there were a series of meetings in the pentagon for expanding the department of defense's response as well as to prepare for the potential outbreak of further violence throughout the region. during these meetings, secretary panetta authorized a number of deployments. i hope that secretary panetta and the chairman will provide the committee with detail on the circumstances that led them to these decisions. since september, there's been a great deal of focus on the supporting role that the marine corps guards played -- play in many u.s. diplomatic missions abroad. the marine corps did not have an lament in again-- in benghazi. the committee will be closely monitoring the use of these marines. our fiscal year 2013 national defense authorization act that requires the secretary of defense to conduct an assessment of the mission of the marine security guard program, whether it should be expanded and to report to congress on the results of this review. more immediately, the provision requires the secretary to develop a plan to increase the number of ma
